Journal wins Emmy for sports video
The Providence Journal has won an Emmy Award for a video story on a West Warwick man with cerebral palsy who has completed 50 marathons in a wheelchair.
The newspaper won a Boston/New England Emmy Award for the video, titled “Marathon Man,” which was shot by staff photographer John Freidah and edited by visuals editor Cecilia Prestamo. The video won in the “News Specialty Report Sports News” category.
The awards are given by the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The ceremony announcing the winners of the 34th annual awards was held Saturday night at the Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, Mass.
“This honor is testament to the Providence Journal’s commitment to great journalism in this transformative age of media,” said Thomas E. Heslin, executive editor of The Journal. “We are proud of our work, and thankful for this acknowledgement.”
“Marathon Man” tells the story of Jason Pisano, 38, who cannot use his arms but is able to use his left foot to push himself in a wheelchair. It was made before he attempted to complete his 50th marathon. He finished the race last October in Newport.
