Veteran Remembered With Fishing Tournament In His Name
Dan Richardson had been back just one week from a deployment in Afghanistan when he and his cousin lost their lives in a boating accident on Castle Rock Lake.
Now his wife Cassie, along with his friends and his comrades from the Air Force Reserve's 115th fighter wing are taking to the lake for the fishing tournament in his honor. Some of the proceeds from the tournament will go to "Remember Me Ranch," an animal rescue that Cassie set up while he was overseas. She recalls fondly how he began to help out when he returned home. "He came back for about a week and he was fixing fences and feeding dogs and was really into it."
Cassie says the extra money is especially valuable for the rescue during these economic times.
Dave Dahlke, a longtime friend of Richardson, says they felt him with them today. "I'm hoping he's shining down on me today, I'm hoping I have a heavy stick and we're running that landing net a lot...I think about him all the time, he's a great friend, he's truly missed by all and he's an inspiration to us all just to come out here and have a great time in his honor.
