'Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See darkness is on the land and deep darkness on the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.' We live in days when this scripture is beginning to be fulfilled. But the time of darkness and light together, will bring about a greater time of 'spiritual warfare' and will necessitate a deeper call to prayer. To help us get a sense of the power of prayer and the revealing of God during warfare we need look no further than WWI and WWII. These were extraordinary days in our nation to live through. Dr Victor Pearce (now 94) lived in both wars and chronicled the amazing stories of the revealing of the power of prayer and the intervention of the Lord during warfare. This is the fifth in a series of articles revealing these stories. Marriage in Heaven?
Some religious leaders in Christ's time came to tell Jesus a funny story. They were actually trying to make him look a fool! In the end, they made fools of themselves. They came with a trumped-up story of a woman who had been married seven times.
'Yes,' they said, 'this woman went on marrying one by one, and one by one they died!'
Makes you wonder why, doesn't it! Anyway, they came to the point. It was an imagined difficulty. They asked, 'When she gets to heaven, whose wife shall she be?'
Now I have been asked this question by one who was widowed three times. She was really worried about it. Well, Jesus came straight out with the answer. He knew all about heaven of course. He told them that there was neither male nor female in heaven and no marriage and, he added, 'Don't take it for granted that you will get to heaven.'
Luke 20:34-36 says, 'And Jesus answering said unto them, the children of this world marry and are given in marriage, but they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage.'
Are you saying, 'Oh, I have had such a wonderful married life. All the loving affection, the closeness of two loving personalities, the beauty of doing things together, the deep emotions shared in confidence - I'm sorry if there is no marriage in heaven!'
Wait a minute. The Bible shows that in heaven you get all the advantages of marriage and none of the disadvantages! Now that is different isn't it? Also, you will meet that perfect husband in heaven if he is saved and you will meet that perfect wife if she is saved. Oh, you might say, my partner wasn't all that good. Ah, but he will be in heaven because you are told in 1 John 3 that he will be changed into the lovely character of the Lord Jesus Christ. All those nasty irritating habits will have gone. He will be an absolute saint - and so will you, thank heaven!

About three years ago I received an invitation from my friends in Colorado to come for a visit to celebrate my father's best friend's 25th wedding anniversary. I had just lost my job I had for almost 15 years. Although the thought of going to see my friends in Colorado was something I wanted to do. I did not see how I could afford to fly back to Colorado for a week with no income. To be honest, I really didn't think I would get to go. So I began to pray fervently about it and I began seeking advice from my mentor, pastor and the men in the men's ministry of the new church family I had joined. But, as I have learned throughout my new life in Christ if it is God's will, He will make it happen in His time. It wasn't until a month before I was supposed to fly out that I made the final decision to go. And I never looked back. That leap of faith and one week in Colorado, changed the course of my life for the last three years. While I was there, I visited many places, including Focus on the Family 's campus in Colorado Springs. During the tour, I picked up a flyer for the National Day of Prayer prayer summit and stuffed it into my backpack. At the end of that week Colorado had RECAPTURED my heart. My friends there urged me to come back during the Fall and winter to see how I handled the weather. Throughout the weekend I heard some of the most powerful prayers, and speakers I've ever heard. I was encouraged by other believers that had suffered so much in their lives and God was using them to bless others, like Diane Dike . God had truly touched my heart. To think I almost never even went because I didn't trust God to get me there. Honestly, it wasn't an easy trip, Satan clearly didn't want me there. It was bad enough that my disability effected my ability to drive at night. Eight hours into my trip, my friends called to tell me that a snowstorm had pretty much shut down the interstate in Kansas and I needed to change my route. As I drove back south, I never felt so alone and scared in my life before. I remember pulling over late one night at a church in the Ozarks because the fog had gotten so thick that I couldn't see to drive. I was too tired to look for in a hotel, so I prayed and then slept for a few hours in my car. The next morning when I woke the fog had dissipated and I could see the rolling hills of the Ozarks. Just beyond the church. The birds were singing and I could hear the cows mooing in the pastors on the hills.
