Sometimes, your best flies out of radar range

May 4--Tori Venable doesn't feel an implant.

But a doctor might not have a problem telling her she's walking with a built-in radar detector.

Venable has spent her entire softball career shining, and it may seem as though not a ray of sun reflects it.

It didn't help that she played a year behind a senior class that had produced six starters over all or part of every season she's been at Muskogee High School. She hit .455, scored 32 runs and had a fielding percentage of 966 last season. Not bad, but with who longtime MHS assistant coach Hal Sands called the three best players ever to wear a Lady Roughers uniform (Hannah Hamilton, Jordan Clark and Madison Reed) at the core of a defending state championship team, few noticed.

After the season, a Venable made the All-Phoenix team but it was her little sister, Jessi, whose .464 average earned her Newcomer of the Year honors.

This year, she's taken on a greater leadership role with the mass losses to graduation and hit .576 with 30 extra base hits. That's tops in both categories. She also leads the team in on-base percentage (.610) and hits (62).

Not much press on that.

Meanwhile, CoCo Epps, who is not kin to Barry Bonds, has 17 home runs, just three short of the team record of Hamilton, who hit 20 last year before moving to Connors State College.

Oh wait, you had four home runs in one day this season?

Ah, yeah, there it is. Right there in the briefs.

That wasn't under the radar, just on a short-handed staff day at the Phoenix.

She just can't win.

"I'm not the big home run hitter," she said.

And she's right. More than half her home runs were on that day in a three-way at Rougherettes Park with Union and Poteau. She had one the following day against Berryhill.

Outside of that, she's had three in 36 games.

"I'm just a basic line-drive hitter and I play defense and do the basic things," she continues.

The problem is, she's always the player in waiting. Things like that happen in life, no matter what you do about it.

"She doesn't play for recognition or awards," MHS coach Keith Coleman said. "But she is probably the most overlooked player I've coached. Those girls ahead of her for three years was a most significant factor in that."

If there was an all-star team picked, little league style, there could be 10 shortstops.

ok, the other guy said this was bad but he doesnt know wat hes talking about, first off the sounds is so loud i have to use the VOLUME button to turn it down, and the only reason it turns off every hour is so that it doesnt drain the battery, people dont read direction, it is all clearly stated in the manual, so next before u write a review read up on the product directions first

I bought two of these, one for me, one for my fiance. These detectors work well for picking up VG2, traffic sensors on the highway, and at the grocery store. BUT, I’ve had at least 3 times when a cop has been pointing his radar gun right at me, and this detector did NOTHING. I even got a speeding ticket when the cop was viewable 1/4 mile away. His radar gun pointed right at me, and this detector did nothing. The only thing it’s good for is picking up the static radar that the police use, to monitor the speed of oncoming traffic, while they are driving. That will also let you know if a cop is nearby. Other than that, its a big heavy worthless waste of money.

I don’t care about the lame screen, it’s the audio that will alert you to look at it and check your speed.
